Stars NYC produces music for film, television, corporate video, presentations and online productions. It was started in 2008 by Timothy Roven as an offshoot of the popular recording duo Stars of Stage and Screen.
Timothy began studying the violin at age 5 at the 92nd-street-Y in New York City. He continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music and played in chamber groups and orchestras during college at UNC-Chapel Hill. After college, the desire to practice daily scales and etudes *cough* mysteriously evaporated. He played guitar and violin in the glam-pop band “What Peggy Wants”, guitar with NYC shoegazers “The Veldt” and toured throughout Europe on violin with “Jolene”. He is currently an at-large member of L.A.’s “The Lamps” as well as one half of the duo “Stars of Stage and Screen”. He has done session violin recording with many bands in New York including Blondie, Savoy (a-ha guitarist Paul Waaktar’s side project), Cottonhead, Mary Lee’s Corvette and Freeloader.
This site features lots of different musical styles. Some commercial, some film and lots of just playing around in the sandbox. Many of the works here are in-progress, or a longer version of what eventually became the finished product.
Before starting Stars NYC, Timothy Roven was founding partner and creative director for the web development company Blue Hypermedia, which was sold in 2001.
Stars Music NYC is based in Brooklyn, which, as some people may not know, is the part where music comes from (what? too borough-centric?). Also, apparently we have a few writers. Maybe an actor or two.
I am always interested in non commercial / experimental collaborations. Contact me via the contact page or email with any requests or ideas.
